Nature management

Ytre Hvaler National Park was established to preserve a distinctive, large, and relatively untouched natural area on Norway’s southeast coast, in the beautiful Hvaler archipelago. The aim of the national park is to preserve the underwater landscape with its varied seabed topography, as well as the ecosystems both on land and in the sea.

The Norwegian Nature Inspectorate Hvaler

The Norwegian Nature Inspectorate (SNO) Hvaler oversees Ytre Hvaler National Park and other protected areas in the county.

The Norwegian Nature Inspectorate’s task is to monitor and inspect the natural environment, and it exercises authority pursuant to the Nature Inspectorate Act under the Ministry of Climate and Environment.
Its purpose is to preserve national environmental values and prevent environmental crime. More specifically, this entails the enforcement of the provisions stipulated in the Outdoor Recreation Act, the Nature Diversity Act, the Road Traffic Act, the Cultural Heritage Act, the Wildlife Act, the Salmonids and Freshwater Fish Act, and parts of the Pollution Control Act.

In addition, maintenance, registration and documentation work is carried out.

Management plan for Ytre Hvaler National Park

Ytre Hvaler National Park is an important symbol of some of the finest experiences Norway can offer visitors. However, nature also has an intrinsic value – independent of our use and enjoyment of it. How should we manage the natural values of the national park so that many people can enjoy and use the area, while safeguarding its conservation values?

The management plan is a practical tool for maintaining and promoting the purpose of the protection, and ensuring predictability and equal treatment in case processing. The management plan provides guidance on how the restrictions in the protection regulations should be interpreted.

The management plan was approved by the Norwegian Environment Agency on 22.10. 2020.
